মো. জসিম উদ্দীন বিশ্বাস, প্রভাষক ইংরেজি বিভাগ ঢাকা রেসিডেনসিয়াল মডেল কলেজ Speech Change প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থীবৃন্দ, আজ ইংরেজি ২য় পত্রের 4 নং প্রশ্ন অর্থাত্ speech change নিয়ে আলোচনা করবো। এই প্রশ্নে direct speech-এ একটি passage দেওয়া থাকবে। Passage টিকে তোমরা indirect speech-এ পরিবর্তন করবে। এর জন্য 4 নম্বর বরাদ্দ থাকবে । চলো passage narration-এর নিয়ম কানুনগুলো জেনে নেওয়া যাক। 1. প্রথমে সমস্ত Passage টি ভালভাবে পড়ে speaker (বক্তা)অর্থাত্ যিনি কথা বলছেন এবং Person to (শ্রোতা) যার সাথে কথা বলছেন তা নির্ণয় করতে হবে। এরপরে Reported speech গুলো কি ধরনের sentence তা নির্ণয় করতে হবে। অতপর প্রত্যেকটি sentence কে তার নিজস্ব নিয়ম-নীতি অনুসারে পরিবর্তন করতে হবে। যেমনঃ Direct Speech: “I want you to accomplish every task sincerely. If you follow my words, you will certainly succeed in life,” grandfather said to his grandson. Indirect Speech: Grandfather told his grandson that he (gf) wanted him (gs) to accomplish every task sincerely. He (gf) added that if he (gs) followed his (gf) words, he (gs) would certainly succeed in life. এখানে speaker হচ্ছে grandfather এবং শ্রোতা হচ্ছে grandson. Direct Speech–এ reporting verb-এর subject যদি অনুলে¬খিত থাকে সেক্ষেত্রে subject হিসেবে the speaker এবং object অনুলে¬খিত থাকলে object হিসেবে the person spoken to ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমনঃ Direct Speech: “Give me the pen.” Indirect Speech: The speaker told the person spoken to to give him the pen. Direct Speech–এ Interrogative Sentence-এর উত্তর সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপে দেওয়া থাকলেও Indirect Speech-এ তা পূর্ণ Sentence-এ লিখতে হবে। যেমনঃ Direct Speech: Swapno said, “What are you doing?” I said, “Nothing.” Indirect Speech: Swapno asked me what I was doing. I replied that I was doing nothing. Reporting Verb টি মাঝে বা শেষে থাকলেও Indirect Speech করার সময় তাকে sentence-এর প্রথমে নিয়ে আসতে হবে। যেমনঃ Direct Speech: “You look a little bit like my mother,” Jerry said to the authoress, “Especially in the dark by the fire.” Indirect Speech: Jerry told the authoress that she looked a little bit like his mother especially in the dark by the fire. Direct Speech-এ কোন বক্তার পর পর একাধিক উক্তি (speech) থাকলে, Indirect Speech করার সময় ২য় বা তত্পরবর্তী উক্তিগুলোর ক্ষেত্রে added that, further added that, also said that, again said that ইত্যাদি ব্যবহার করতে হয়। তবে দ্বিতীয় sentence টিকে আলাদাভাবেও লেখা যায়। যেমনঃ Direct Speech: He said, “I can chop some wood today. I will come again tomorrow. If it is necessary I can do other works here. ” Indirect Speech: He said that he could chop some wood that day. He added that he would come again the next day. He further added that if it was necessary he could do other works there.
