শিক্ষার্থী বন্ধুরা, তোমরা কেমন আছ? নিশ্চয় ভালো আছ। বিশ্ব এক মরণঘাতি ভাইরাসের কারণে দুর্যোগ মুহূর্ত পার করছে। তোমাদের নিয়মিত ক্লাস স্থগিত হলেও সংসদ বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশনে নিয়মিত ক্লাস পরিচালনা করা হচ্ছে। এই সময়টাতে ঘরে বসে চর্চা করবে। স্বাস্থ্যবিধি মেনে চলবে। অনুশীলন পাতায় নিয়মিত চোখ রাখবে। আজ আমি তোমাদের সাথে Connector করার নিয়ম (পর্ব ১) সম্পর্কে আলোচনা করব। তাহলে শুরু করা যাক।
আমরা সবাই জানি, Link/Connect অর্থ যুক্ত করা। Linker/Connector অর্থ যুক্তকারী। কথা বলার সময় বা কোনো কিছু লেখার সময় বাক্যগুলোর ভেতর সংগতি বা যৌক্তিক চলমানতা বজায় রাখার জন্য মাঝে মাঝে বিভিন্ন ধরনের Word বা Phrase ব্যবহূত হয়। এ জাতীয় Word বা Phrase-কে Sentence Connector বা Sentence Linker বলে। যেমন:so, as a result, therefore, but, next, in fact, of course, in brief, on the other hand ইত্যাদি। একটি উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে আর একটু পরিষ্কার করা যাক। Bangladesh is a small country. So, she cannot house her large population. এখানে বক্তব্যের ধারাবাহিকতা রক্ষার জন্য so দ্বারা দুটো sentence-কে যুক্ত করা হয়েছে। তাই এখানে so হচ্ছে Linker বা Connector।
Rule1: As a result/for this/for this reason/that is why/this is why/thus/as a consequence/consequently/therefore/so/hence কারণে/ ফলে/এভাবে/তাই : Clause/Sentence দ্বারা কোনো কিছুর কারণ বোঝালে সেই কারণে সংঘটিত প্রভাবের আগে উপরিউক্ত Linker বা Connector-গুলো ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
a. Many dishonest businessmen hoard the daily commodities. As a result, the prices of them lie at an imbalanced rate.
b. Sajid walked slowly. For this/For this reason/That is why/Thus/Therefore, he failed to reach the station in time.
c. Despite of my warning he violated my instruction. As a consequence/Consequently/Hence/ Therefore/For this/For this reason/That is why/Thus/As a result/So, he had to suffer much.
Rule2: In short/in brief/in a few words/in a word/in a nutshell/in fine/in conclusion/to sum up/to summarize/ on the whole সংক্ষেপে/এককথায় বলতে গেলে : পূর্বে আলোচিত কোনো বক্তব্যের ইতি টানতে তার পূর্বে এই Linker বা Connector-গুলো ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমন:
a. His whole family depends on him. He is the only earning member of his family. In a word, he is the umbrella of his family.
b. Bangladesh is a small country. She has a large population. She cannot ensure the basic rights of her citizens. People are mostly poor here. Most of them are illiterate. In short/In brief/In a word/In a nutshell/In fine/In conclusion/To conclude/To sum up/To summarize/On the whole, Bangladesh is burdened with many problems.
