Rule 16: Reflexive object: subject ও object একই ব্যক্তিকে বোঝায়।
Structure: ® sub ® sub ® be verb + v.p.p + be+ reflexive object.
He killed himself.
® He was killed by himself.
Exercise: She fans herself.
He killed himself.
Rina poisoned herself.
They praised themselves.
You killed yourself.
They play themselves.
Rule 17: Cognate object:
Cog: obj® sub ® be verb + v.p.p + by+sub®obj.
She dreamt a good dream.
® A good dreamt was dreamt by her.
Exercise: He ran a race.
I slept a sound sleep.
Rule 18: Negative sentence:
Obj® sub ® be verb + not + v.p.p + by+sub®obj.
He does not do it.
® It is not done by him.
Exercise: He did not eat bread.
They will not fly kite.
I had not done the work.
Rule 19: Defective verb/ Modal verb:
Object ® sub ® be verb + defective/modal verb+be + v.p.p + by+sub®obj.
He can do the work.
® The work can be done by him
Exercise: You will help the poor.
They can do this sum.
I may help you.
You should do it.
Rule 20: Quasi-passive verb: দেখতে Active কিন্তু passive এর অর্থ বহন করে। তাকে Quasi-passive verb বলে।
Structure: (1): ® sub ® sub+ is + adjective + when it + v.p.p
The book reads well.
® The book is well when it is read
Structure: (2): ® sub ® sub+ be verb + v.p.p
Honey tastes sweet.
® Honey is tasted sweet.
Or- Honey is sweet when it is tasted.
Exercise:
Iron feels hard.
The tablet tests bitter.
The rose smell is sweet.
Rome was not build in a day.
