ইংরেজি দ্বিতীয়পত্র মো: জসিম উদ্দীন বিশ্বাস প্রভাষক, ইংরেজি বিভাগ ঢাকা রেসিডেনসিয়াল মডেল কলেজ Omission of Article Proper noun এর পূর্বে Article বসেনা। যেমনঃ X Mr. Mainuddin lived in x Khagrachhary. মনে রাখতে হবে Article কেবলমাত্র Noun এর পূর্বেই বসে। অন্য কোন Parts of speech এর পূর্বে বসেনা। যদি বসে তবে দেখবে যে ঐ শব্দটির পর অবশ্যই Noun একটি আছে। যেমনঃ Sakib Al Hasan is a great all rounder in the arena of world cricket. He is x honest. He is a good student. কোন Noun এর পূর্বে Possessive adjective (his, her, my, our, their, your, its, Ratul’s, Shahed’s, Fardin’s) থাকলে এদের পূর্বে বা পরে কোথাও Article বসেনা। যেমনঃ This is a book. The book is x his. This is his x book. Demonstrative pronoun [this, that, these, those, such] এর পূর্বে বা পরে যেদিকেই খালিঘর থাকুক কোন article বসেনা। কারণ এরা প্রত্যেকেই article এর কাজ করে। যেমনঃ Give me that x pen, please. Give me your x pen. কোন Noun এর পূর্বে Adjective থাকলে Article টি Adjective এর পূর্বে বসে। যদি Adjective পরে বসে এবং Noun এর পূর্বে আবার খালিঘর থাকে তবে ঐ খালিঘরে Article বসেনা । যেমনঃ He is an honest man. He has x amiable x character. Uncountable Noun বা Abstract Noun এর পূর্বে Article বসেনা। তবে নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝালে বা Sentence -এ Noun টি দ্বিতীয়বার ব্যবহূত হলে এর পূর্বে The বসে। We drink water to quench our x thirst. The water of the Padma is still pure. There was a little water in the jar but the water was at bottom of the jar. ভাষার নামের পূর্বে Article বসে না, কিন্তু ভাষার নামের পরে Language শব্দটি থাকলে এর পূর্বে The বসে। যেমনঃ He speaks English like the English. We use x Bangla as our mother language. The Bangla language is now familiar all over the world. খেলার নামের পূর্বে Article বসেনা। যেমনঃ We play x football. x Cricket is my favourite game. রোগের নামের পূর্বে Article বসেনা। যেমনঃ He died of x cholera. He is suffering from x headache. দিন বা মাসের নামের পূর্বে Article বসেনা। যেমনঃ He was born on x last Friday in December. মানব জাতি বুঝাতে Man/woman পূর্বে Article বসে না। x Man is mortal. কোন দেশ বা স্থানের নামের পূর্বে Article বসেনা। তবে ভৌগলিকভাবে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থানের নামের পূর্বে The বসে। We live in Bangladesh. The U.S.A. is the most powerful country in the world. Tasnima Akter has been studying in the U.K. The U. S. S. R. has been broken into fifteen countries. The K. S. A. is called the land of pilgrimage. The head quarter of Asian Development Bank is in The Philippines. Bryan Lara was born in the West Indies. Bed, mosque, church, hospital, prison, school, college, university, court. ইত্যাদি স্থানগুলো যদি সাধারন অর্থে ব্যবহূত হয় তবে তাদের পূর্বে Article বসেনা। কিন্তু বিশেষ অর্থে এদের পূর্বে The বসে। যেমনঃ He goes to x bed at 11pm. Ariful Abed went to x hospital to look after a patient who has nobody to look after. রাস্তা, এ্যভিনু, স্কয়ার, পার্কের নামের পূর্বে Article বসেনা। কিন্তু এদের নামের পর road শব্দটি থাকলে The বসে। যেমনঃ He bought a shop in x Park Street. He bought a shop in the Mirpur Road. Allah বা God এর পূর্বে Article বসেনা । যেমনঃ Allah helps those who help themselves. বিখ্যাত গ্রন্থের পূর্বে লেখকের নাম থাকলে তার পূর্বে the বসে না। যেমনঃ Nazrul’s Agnibina was published in 1922. (But The Agnibina of Nazrul was banned by the then British government. কোন auxiliary এবং principal verb এর মাঝে article এর দরকার হয়না বা article বসেনা। যেমনঃ He was x disturbed by his classmates. To be এবং adjective এর মাঝে article এর দরকার হয়না বা article বসেনা যদি adjective এর পর কোন noun না থাকে। যেমনঃ These are the tips for him who is careless. But it is for him who is a careless person. Proper noun এর পূর্বে Common Noun বসে যদি Adjective এর কাজ করে তবে Proper Noun টির পূর্বে বা পরে article বসেনা । যেমনঃ Professor Shafi Ahmed received his M.A in English from Kolkata University. Home এর পূর্বে বা পরে descriptive word বা phrase না থাকলে article বসেনা । যেমনঃ We went x home. He is at x home. কিন্তু home এর পূর্বে বা পরে descriptive word বা phrase থাকলে the বসে। যেমনঃ We arrived at the bride’s home. For some four or five hours this was the home for the queen.
