সুপ্রিয় শিক্ষার্থীরা, শুভেচ্ছা নিও। English Grammar-এ Article একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ item যা অতি মনোযোগ সহকারে অধ্যয়ন করা প্রয়োজন। তাই আজ আমরা অষ্টম শ্রেণির English Second Paper থেকে Article এর ব্যবহারের নিয়মগুলো আলোচনা করবো। গত বুধবারের পর কোন তুলনা বুঝাতে Abstract Noun যখন Common Noun হিসেবে ব্যবহূত হয় তখন এদের পূর্বে a/ an বসে। যেমনঃ She is a beauty. Exclamation বুঝাতে what এবং such এর পর a / an বসে। What a sonsy baby it! Such a log queue! কোন এক কালে কোথাও একটি /একজন ছিল/আছে এর পূর্বে বসে । একে generalizing “a” বলে। There lived a king in a village. There are five components in a computer. সংক্ষিপ্ত শব্দ বা শব্দের প্রথম অক্ষর টির উচ্চারণ শুরুতে vowel এর মত হলে তাদের পূর্বে an বসে কিন্তু অক্ষরটির উচ্চারণ শুরুতে consonant এর মত হলে তাদের পূর্বে a বসে। My friend, Palash Biswas, is an M. B. B. S . Mr. Atiur Rahman is a B.A Number বা সংখ্যা থাকলে উচ্চারণ অনুযায়ী a/an বসাতে হবে। There was an 8 course meal after the wedding. Plural Noun এর পূর্বে few, little, good many, lot of, great many, good deal ইত্যাদি ব্যবহূত হলে তাদের পূর্বে a বসে। যেমনঃ He earns a lot of money. There is a little water in the pond. There are a few pomegranates on the table. He lived a great many years. King Solomon had a great deal of money. Many এবং such এর পরে singular common noun ব্যবহূত হলে ইহার পূর্বে a/an বসে। যেমনঃ Many a man was present in the meeting. Mr. Mrs. Miss এর পূর্বে a বসে। যেমনঃ A Mr. Biswas called at my office. A Mrs. Shaheen Akter presented him the blue diary. Omission of A /An: সাধারণত খাবারের (meals) পূর্বে A/An বসে না। তবে খাবারে পূর্বে adjective থাকলে a/an বসে। যেমনঃ Incorrect: Usually we have a breakfast at 7a.m. Correct: Usually we have breakfast at 7 a.m. Plural noun এর পূর্বে a/an বসে না। যেমনঃ Gardenias are beautiful and flagrant. Horses are strong animal. Generally uncountable হিসেবে গণ্য advice, information, news, baggage luggage ইত্যাদির পূর্বে a/an বসে না। যেমনঃ Mr. Mashur Shahid Hossain always gives good advice. The Rab can collect correct information. Water, milk, oil, ink, hydrogen, tea, paper ইত্যাদির পূর্বে a/an বসে না। যেমনঃ paper is made of wood. তবে Uncountable Noun এর সঙ্গে measure words যোগ করা হলে তাদের পূর্বে a/an বসে। যেমনঃ Give me a glass of water, please. Abstract এর পূর্বে a/an বসে না। যেমনঃ kindness is great virtue.
