The Preposition প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থীবৃন্দ, আজ ইংরেজি ২য় পত্রের ২ নং প্রশ্ন অর্থাত্ The Preposition নিয়ে আলোচনা করবো। এ অংশে 6 টি শূন্যস্থান সংবলিত একটি নির্দিষ্ট passage দেওয়া থাকবে যার পূর্ণমান ৩। উপযুক্ত preposition ব্যবহার করে শূন্যস্থানে পূরণ করতে হবে। সে সকল word কোন noun বা pronoun এর পূর্বে ব্যবহূত হয়ে Sentence এর অন্যান্য word এর সঙ্গে সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে, তাদেরকে preposition বলে। Preposition এর পরে ব্যবহূত noun বা pronoun কে preposition এর object বলে। যেমনঃ What’s the time by your watch? The book is on the table. Idleness is the root of all evils. I will meet you at six p.m. যেসব ক্ষেত্রে Preposition ব্যবহূত হয়- a. Adverb এর পূর্বে: Go away from here. b. Adjective এর পূর্বে: I got the money in full. c. Infinitive এর পূর্বে: He is about to go. d. Gerund এর পূর্বে: We are sure of winning the game. e. Noun phrase এর পূর্বে: You must rely on my word. f. Clause এর পূর্বে: You must rely on what I say. g. Noun এর পূর্বে: Sami goes to school everyday. N.B: (i) Interrogative Adverb, Interrogative Pronoun বা Relative Pronoun এর সাথে সংশ্লিষ্ট Prepositions, Sentence এর শেষে বসে। এ ধরনের Preposition কে Detached Preposition বলে। যেমনঃ What are you looking for? Where have you come from? Here is the pen (that) you asked for. This is the book (that) I was thinking of. সাধারণত যেখানে Prepositions এর পরে object বসে না , সেক্ষেত্রে ঐ সকল Prepositions, Adverb হিসেবে ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমনঃ I waited for Kamal outside the bank. (এখানে outside হলো Preposition) Kamal went into the bank and I waited outside. (এখানে outside হলো Adverb) I will not go out before lunch. (এখানে before হলো Preposition) I have gone through this novel before. (এখানে outside হলো Adverb) (ii) Preposition অনেক সময় Conjunction হিসেবে ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমনঃ We must be ready before their arrival. (এখানে before হলো Preposition) We must be ready before they arrive. (এখানে before হলো Conjunction) Preposition এর সাধারণ কিছু ব্যবহারঃ সময় বুঝাতে at, by, between, before, after, during, in, on, to, from, for, since, throughout, till, until, ইত্যাদি Preposition ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমনঃ He came at 7 o’clock. He will start the after lunch. They came on Monday. Mehenaj will return before dinner. It has been raining for a week. It has been raining since Monday. He will come by 7 o’clock. Rifa will come before 8 o’ clock. কোন স্থান বা অবস্থান বুঝাতে at above, across, against, before, near, behind, in, inside, out, outside, on, over, under, ইত্যাদি Preposition ব্যবহূত হয়। যেমনঃ Kamrul is at home. I am in my class. He has no roof above his head. There is an umbrella over my head. There is a cap on his head. The man was standing against a wall. The thief stood before the judge. A child is walking behind his mother. He is sitting under a tree. The bank is just across the road. He stood near the station. A beggar is standing outside the door.
